Brookfield’s longtime resident historian, the late Robert Wilder (1933-2015) spent decades mapping early Brookfield and other towns of the original Quaboag Plantation. To coincide with celebrations of Brookfield’s 350th anniversary, Wilder’s friends and collaborators organized this program to remember his legacy and to continue the conversation of how to recognize Brookfield’s Native American story. Through live presentations, film clips, maps, and a display of artifacts, the program will focus on Brookfield’s past, present and future through the lens of its first inhabitants, including the Quaboag and Nipmuc peoples. Organizers are mobilizing tens of thousands of people across the country to participate in the End Fossil Fuels march! The march will take place on Sunday, Sept 17, in New York City during the UN Climate Ambition Summit. Join the Massachusetts Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence, Stop Handgun Violence, Moms Demand Action, and others for an Advocacy Day to show the Legislature how widespread support for gun violence prevention is throughout the Commonwealth. Assistance in scheduling a meeting with your state senator and state representative in advance will be provided to participants. Meet at the Cathedral where the organizers will distribute advocacy materials, go over details of the day, and answer any questions that folks may have about the day. This community-based forum is designed to give you the latest, most trustworthy, information about: 1. renewable energy (wind, solar, geothermal) so that you can better plan to make informed choices about when or whether to choose it; 2. planting and landscaping choices based on the long-term weather predictions; 3. how or even if to prepare for those predicted long-term weather changes; 4. free and/or inexpensive ways to save on heating and electric bills that also reduce the carbon footprint.
